Masisi, 2025

two-channel video installation

4:47s

Masisi begins with the reconstruction of a fictionalisland—an imagined landscape shaped by memory, displacement, and the uncertainty surrounding thefuture of my tribe. The island is built through 3Dmodelling, while documentary video of myhomeland is embedded at its centre. It places fictionand documentation within the same frame, reflecting the gradual disappearance of Indigenouscommunities in Taiwan and producing a landscapethat feels tense and unstable, suspended betweenreality and imagination.

Growing up both inside and outside my tribe, I oncebelieved I understood my community intuitively. Yetwhen I attempted to articulate it in detail, mymemories became fragmented and incomplete, revealing how much I had forgotten—or perhapsnever fully known. This work emerges from thatrupture. By reconstructing the land in another form,I offer memory a place to live when the physicallandscape can no longer fully contain it.
