Characteristics of life, 2019

"Characteristics of Life" serves as the title for this seriesof creations, which blend personal emotions andexperiences with the forms of cosmic constellations toimagine the four stages of life expressed through fourartworks. At the same time, it captures a reflection of thecreator's mindset during the creative process—from theinitial excitement of engaging in creation to moments ofconfusion and self-doubt, gradually finding direction, and ultimately achieving balance while embracingmultiple perspectives. This cycle repeats endlessly, likea perpetual loop.

The techniques extensively used in these works are primarily inspired by Alvar Aalto, the pioneer of bentwood design, and his "cold-pressed bentwood technique." Aalto is also a key innovator in the wood furniture industry. In this series, I seek to break wood's material boundaries and challenge its conventional perception. No longer confined to a rational and rigid impression, I aim to present wood as soft and emotive as water.

At the heart of the works is an incense burner, representing the core of life. The smoke produced by the incense is intangible and colorless, unfettered by physical form, and capable of drifting anywhere. Our souls, regardless of where we are, what stage of life we are in, or how external circumstances change, can float freely like the smoke to wherever we aspire to be.

"Origin" serves as a prototype, exploring and attempting to interpret thestate of life's birth, capturing a fleeting moment of "action.“

Based on DNA and resembling the Big Bang of the universe, it simulatesthe consciousness and actions of living organisms during their initial stagesof formation. It also records the transition from chaos to order—expandingand exploring—resembling the purity of all organic and living entities atbirth, filled with curiosity about the world.

“II - Lost”, 2019

After the era of birth, we welcome vast and diverse matters, with complexand multi-angled structures symbolizing the splendour of the world—beautiful yet easily leading one astray.

This piece allows interaction through swinging and rotating, while it isdesigned as a labyrinth without an exit, symbolizing being trapped incomplexity with no way out.

It also serves as a reflection of my state of mind during its creation—aprolonged time in the studio left me physically and mentally exhausted, even questioning the meaning of it all.

“III - Direction”, 2019

The process of transformation and finding a path, through manualoperation and indicators, resembles a navigational compass, symbolizingthe search for direction.

In the stars, like a black hole accumulating energy before releasing a burstof rays, strong and clear.

At this stage, the direction is clear, no longer mindlessly crashing, butsteadily pointing toward the goal, no longer lost.

In the final stage, life undergoes transformation and becomes flexible and resilient.

On the hand-operated device, through rotation and pressure, it symbolizes thepressures and challenges encountered in life.

No matter what happens, it can embrace and respond, offering equivalent feedbackand maintaining balance, like a comet moving forward calmly and steadily.
